The globe is drawn from open data, downsampled and re-encoded for this page. Everything used is listed below with its licence, and what was changed.
Coastlines come from the global-land-mask package by Todd Karin, which is built from NOAA's GLOBE 1 km elevation dataset. Resampled here to a 0.25° grid and packed as a bitmask.
Classified into eight terrain types on a 0.5° grid from three images shipped in basemap-data (© 2011 Jeffrey Whitaker): NASA's Blue Marble Next Generation for surface colour, NOAA's ETOPO1 colour relief for elevation, and a shaded-relief image for ruggedness. None of the images themselves are included; only the derived classes are.
Positions and populations of 6,204 cities with more than 100,000 people, from GeoNames, by way of the geonamescache package by Ramiro Gómez. Changed here: filtered to cities over 100,000 and coordinates rounded to two decimal places.
The travel layer's countries come from Natural Earth's 1:50m Admin 0 countries. Changed here: rasterised to the land mask's 0.25° grid, with each country spread two cells out to sea so it meets the coastline. Borders are shown as Natural Earth draws them.
Computed in the page from the date and time with standard approximations for solar declination and the equation of time. No external data.
The dragon palette for the dark theme and lotus for the light theme, from the kanagawa.nvim colour scheme by rebelot.
Monospace face for the glyphs, labels and headings, by Evil Martians. Self-hosted, from the Fontsource package.
Applies to global-land-mask (© Todd Karin), basemap-data (© 2011 Jeffrey Whitaker), geonamescache (© Ramiro Gómez) and kanagawa.nvim (© rebelot).
